Ecological Services

Riparian plantings are done adjacent to a stream to protect water quality and improve habitat.  Trees and other plantings can provide stability to a streambank.  In addition, trees provide shade to a stream, lowering water temperatures, which is important for trout.  

Tree and shrub plantings can be done following a timber harvest or natural disturbance to speed up the reforestation process.  These plantings can also placed in an open area, such as an old field, to reestablish a forest cover type.    

We offer bareroot and containerized planting services.  These types of plantings are generally done to restore shrub or forested habitat to an area that was previous converted to an alternate use.  

We strive to control and eradicate invasive species when they encountered.  Invasive species such as Japanese Angelica Tree or Spotted Lanternfly greatly impact the native ecosystem.  Our team of experts has much experience in controlling invasive species.  

Many species of wildlife, especially deer, can have a negative impact on the regeneration of forests.  We offer design and installation services of Deer Exclusion Fencing for our clients.  Oftentimes there is cost sharing available for these services from the State and/or Federal governments.  

This is a grant program offered by NYSDEC to support the regeneration of forests so they may continue to deliver vital services such as mitigating climate change, protecting air and water quality, and supporting the economy. Young forests face many challenges today that did not exist a century ago, the most significant being wide-spread damage caused by increased white-tailed deer populations and competition from invasive vegetation.

We have helped many landowners particpate in this grant program with invasive species control in forests.
